We go way back.
The Goldfish is Brigid Colver and Liz Sarb: friends going on 25 years with a soulmate-level ESP that has kept our bond strong through the chaos of growing up and starting families of our own.
In early summer 2023, we each wrote an essay about Gentle Parenting. (We came out of the pandemic with a similar axe to grind.) Although we wrote them sight unseen, the pieces followed the same emotional beats—because of the whole ESP thing—but in our distinct styles. They felt like sisters; like they belonged in the same home. And so The Goldfish was born. We want to write about motherhood (mostly), as it is happening. We want to find common ground. We want to explore, make mistakes, and have revelations. We would love for you to read along with us. We hope this can be a home for you too.
Why The Goldfish?
we are not: selling // giving advice // punching down // tied to trends or newsworthiness.
we are: writing slowly // getting there eventually // carving out space for creativity // trying our best to pay attention.
In lieu of author photos, please enjoy this turtle, the only photo we took during a recent weekend together. We have 485023 children and can’t be bothered.
